The majority of Londoners are not willing to pay a Blackwall Tunnel toll to help pay for new river crossings, a survey says.
A YouGov survey for business group London First showed residents' most popular solution to deal with increasing congestion was a higher congestion charge during rush hour.
They were split down the middle on whether new crossings like Greenwich's proposed Silvertown Tunnel and Gallions Bridge at Thamesmead should be tolled.
Out of respondents, 46 per cent were in favour compared to 43 per cent against.
And only 32 per cent were in favour of currently free crossings like Blackwall being subject to a toll.
The survey supported a report from London First entitled Jams Today, Jams Tomorrow suggesting those who governed in the capital had to accept the reality of new charges.
