Members of the public have just a few weeks left to pay tribute to a member of Bexley Council staff by nominating them for an award.

The recently launched Staff Thanks and Recognition Scheme (STARS), aims to increase staff appreciation by honouring the achievements of dedicated staff across the borough.

There are eight categories including excellence in customer service, outstanding work in the community, exceptional partnership working and manager of the year.

Bexley Council cabinet member for environment and public realm Councillor Gareth Bacon said: "The current financial situation means staff are working harder than ever with less resources, to provide the excellent services we have come to expect.

"The STARS initiative is one way of showing them their efforts are recognised and that we are grateful for them going the extra mile to help our residents and businesses."

Nominations are open until August 22.

The only award a lot of them deserve would be for incompetence. Especially the management team.

Gareth, I have worked in several organisations that have these kinds of awards, and they always go to the bosses favourites.

Just give the gongs to the bosses & their favourites & have done with it, nobody will be expecting anything else (and it pre empts anybody actually counting votes and leaking the truth).

Let's nominate the following... Manager of the year should be mike frizoni for giving us the trinity place roundabout in bexleyheath and the vast number of parking fines for proper parking.
Excellence in customer service should go to mark charters for leaving the councils looked after children in a safe place.
And partnership working to peter ellershaw and Toni ainge for not just being married but director and deputy on the gravy train.
Stars. Croneyism.

On a more serious note people should vote for those who have had an impact. Vote for the people who brought us the damson festival which is no more. Vote for the people who brought fun to the lives of children in the north of the borough who brought us the splash park. Vote yes to the children centre workers who fear for their jobs. And the librarians in bostall and blackfen, north heath etc.. But for those who are hard working nothing will make up for a chief exec on over £200,000 and his golden payoffs for the likes of two directors leaving next month and the month after. Stars is another dare I say idea out of bonkers Bexley.
