Greenwich is getting ready to celebrate its maritime history with the announcement of the programme for next month’s Tall Ships Festival.
The historic town will thrive from September 5 to 9 with more than 50 Tall Ships docked along the river and plenty of theatre and things to do alongside.
Catalan street theatre group Sarruga will perform a dazzling underwater spectacle Peixos on the opening night, featuring lanterns and cycling powered machines.
Sailings will take place each day, while there will be the chance to board Tall Ships, pop-up theatre and music performances throughout and lots going on at the Cutty Sark, Royal Observatory and Maritime Museum throughout the festival.
There will be a chance to sing traditional sea shanties and see skilled displays of rigging at the Cutty Sark, and fireworks in the evening.
Up to 1,000 Tall Shops crew will parade through Greenwich on September 6 while a spectacular Parade of Sail will close the show on September 9.
