Roadworks are planned in Bexleyheath this month as an award-winning area has "disappointingly" revealed faults.
Repairs will be carried out in Arnsberg Way next week with temporary traffic lights will be in place.
The street is part of the Bexleyheath Town Centre Revitalisation Scheme which benefited from new paving and road surfaces last year.
This development recently won the Excellence in Walking and Public Realm at the London Transport Awards.
However, some isolated areas in Arnsberg Way have started to show surface defects.
Councillor Don Massey, cabinet member for community safety and leisure, said: "I am disappointed these faults have materialised.
"We are working with the surface designers and contractor of the scheme to ensure this is rectified, including investigating other alternatives, to see if there could be a more robust long-term solution, such as changing the surfaces of these particular areas.
"I have made it clear that this is to be done at no cost to the public purse."
