Roadworks are planned in Bexleyheath this month as an award-winning area has "disappointingly" revealed faults.

Repairs will be carried out in Arnsberg Way next week with temporary traffic lights will be in place.

The street is part of the Bexleyheath Town Centre Revitalisation Scheme which benefited from new paving and road surfaces last year.

This development recently won the Excellence in Walking and Public Realm at the London Transport Awards.

However, some isolated areas in Arnsberg Way have started to show surface defects.

Councillor Don Massey, cabinet member for community safety and leisure, said: "I am disappointed these faults have materialised.

"We are working with the surface designers and contractor of the scheme to ensure this is rectified, including investigating other alternatives, to see if there could be a more robust long-term solution, such as changing the surfaces of these particular areas.

"I have made it clear that this is to be done at no cost to the public purse."

Didn't we all predict this some time ago? Catch up Bexley Council. Having these works conducted "at no cost to the public purse" simply is not good enough. It is the additional time & disruption to repair a road design that is clearly not fit for purpose that most residents of the borough will resent the most.

At no cost to the public purse usually translates as 'we've made a right mess of this'! But will anyone be held accountable? Me doubts it!

Knew it would not be long before they were repairing the road! It happened in both Bromley & Orpington also. Councils will never learn.

I seem to remember Conway were carrying localised repairs to the area even during the main program. Even now in Barnehurst Road/Erith Road, this was re laid about 6 weeks ago, and what are they doing now,.... digging it up and relaying again. No doubt though this total failure by the Town Planners, they will still get their bonus this year for another failure !!!

I saw the pavement up in Barnehurst this morning, made me chuckle as you say it was not laid that long ago . Next they will be digging up the new tarmac which has been laid. Such a waste of resources.

No cost to the council. Yet a cost to the motorist in delays due to roadworks. Are people stupid? They should know how much a bus weighs and the strength of materials. Bexley is bonkers! Next thing you know they will be closing the splash parks for two days a week in the summer holidays as they are getting dirty. O. They are. Bill Tuckley must be a proud highly paid civil servant. O. He is. He told the public his children services were much better. Yet the man he asked to run things ran off to the isle of man. And his safeguarding board was branded inadequate. If all this sounds familiar then a prized road repaired in 6 months is par for the course. All these people can do is organise a nice party in a pub with entertainment. Shambolic
