Northfleet charity puts on Dartford play to commemorate First World War

A Northfleet charity put on a special play in Dartford's Central Park to commemorate the outbreak of the First World War.

Walk Tall, a confidence-building charity based in Lower Road, performed 1914 Respect at the bandstand to a crowd of around 100 on Saturday at 1pm.

The 45-minute show tells the story of a pair of teenagers who find love letters from 1914.

At 8pm the same day the charity's Repertory Company performed 1914 Outbreak at the Greenhithe and Swanscombe Royal British Legion in London Road.

Written and directed by Robbie Humphries with an original score by David Scott, the play detailed the events that led up to the outbreak of the Great War.

Charity chief executive Ann Duke said: “They both went incredibly well.

“For Respect the weather was glorious and MP Gareth Johnson and Mayor Avtar Sandhu were an absolute delight.

“Outbreak was stunning and when the Royal British Legion bugler played the Last Post at the end it was spine-tingling.”

There is another chance to see Respect in Swanscombe Park this Friday at 1pm.
