Conservatives have chosen a Blackheath credit union volunteer to run for the Greenwich and Woolwich seat at the next election.
Newly-elected Councillor Matt Hartley, who is Greenwich Conservatives' deputy leader, will run for the consituency, which is being vacated by long-standing Labour MP Nick Raynsford.
The 28-year-old school governor and education finance charity worker will go up against Labour's Councillor Matthew Pennycook for the seat.
Speaking after his selection on Thursday (July 24), Coun Hartley said: "It is a huge honour to be given the opportunity to stand in this wonderful constituency and in the place I am proud to call home.
"In a borough that has been dominated by Labour for too long, residents in Greenwich and Woolwich need a strong voice.
"Whether it’s over the state of our council housing, the appalling service we receive from Southeastern or the challenges facing our small businesses, I look forward to standing up for residents’ interests and making my case over the next nine months."
