Two men wanted for crimes in Poland have been arrested in a dawn raid on a Belvedere squat.

Bexley Police’s Neighbourhood Policing Teams executed a warrant at the house in Gilbert Road just after 7am on Tuesday (July 22).

Four Polish men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of illegal squatting in a residential premises and bypassing the electricity meter.

Sergeant Chris Molnar, of Bexley police, who was at the scene, told News Shopper: "It was disgraceful and disgusting how the property had been lived in.

"I have gone into all the other neighbours and you have seen what the house should look like, it was sad that they have treated it that way.

"They are nice homes and they have treated it in a disgraceful way.

"The neighbours are happy with the situation now."

The men, aged 49, 56, and two aged 41, all remain in custody at a south London police station.

Sergeant Molnar added: "This is a great result for us.

"We have managed to help reclaim this property that has been abused by these men, as well as working in partnership with Immigration to remove three of them who have been in the UK illegally.

"The damage and mess caused by these men has affected the lives of local residents, and this has now thankfully come to an end."

PC Pete Rose added: "Working in partnership with other agencies such as the Immigration Service will help us reduce crime in the area. "It was a bonus to find out that two of these suspects are wanted in Poland and will now be returned there to face punishment for their crimes."
