A 51-year-old motorcyclist has been killed in a crash with a car in Lewisham.

Met Police officers were called to the junction between Adelaide Avenue and Eastern Road at 1.56am this morning (July 20) to reports of a collision between a car and a motorcyclist.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics shortly after 2am.

Residents of Adelaide Avenue and Eastern Road were woken up by the sounds of sirens as emergency services attended the accident.

Joseph Downs, aged 62, of Eastern Road said: "The sirens woke us up and we had a look out and could see there had been an accident.

"I didn't know somebody had died - it's really sad."

Hannah Martins, aged 25, of Adelaide Avenue added: "I heard a lot of noise and sirens but I didn't know what was going on.

"It's really awful."

Adelaide Avenue was closed for several hours and was re-opened at around 6am.

No arrests have been made.
