A Bromley man who sexually assaulted a woman who was coming back from a night out during a stranger attack has been jailed for four years.

Anis Sina, 27, of Lullington Garth, Bromley was sentenced at Croydon Crown Court after pleading guilty to the assault.

The offence happened on March 17 when the 22-year-old victim had been out with friends celebrating St Patrick's Day in London.

She returned to her home in Petts Wood just after midnight.

As she walked home she felt someone was following her.

The victim then saw a man behind and began to walk quickly.

He caught up with her and he grabbed her from behind in Tudor Way. He then sexually assaulted her.

She managed to fight the attacker off and bite his finger followed by kicking him in stomach.

The man then ran off and she called police.

The suspect was located hiding in a driveway in Towncourt Lane, Petts Wood, where he was arrested.

An investigation commenced and the suspect was positively identified in a parade by the victim.

Sina pleaded guilty to sexual assault and actual bodily harm.

Detective Constable Hannah Ward, of the Met's sexual offences command, said: "This was an extremely traumatic incident for the victim who was followed and then attacked and sexually assaulted, which only ended through her determination to escape from him.

"This result means that a sexual predator has been brought to justice and this will safeguard other women. It will also hopefully go some way to providing some comfort to the victim. I would like to commend her for her bravery."

Detetcive Inspector Faye Churchyard, of the same unit, said: "The victim was extremely brave in this attack, not all victims are able to fight off their attackers.

"Anis Sina may have attacked other women and I urge them to come forward and tell the police what has happened to you.

"Anyone who has been a victim of sexual violence should come forward and we will be able to support you through the reporting process. Sina is now in prison and will not be able to harm anyone else."
