Gravesend M&S will definitely close in September, a company spokeswoman has confirmed today (July 11).
It was revealed last month the retail giant was considering shutting up shop in New Road after being there for more than 100 years.
The final day of trading will be on September 27.
A Gravesham Council spokesman said they were "amazed" when the plans were first suggested and meetings took place to try and salvage the store but to no avail.
An M&S spokeswoman said: “It’s a difficult decision that we’ve not made lightly.
"Unfortunately, the store is in need of modernisation and the scale of the investment required means that it is no longer commercially viable.
"We hope our customers in Gravesend will continue to shop with us at our new website M&S.com and our new look stores in Bluewater and Hempstead Valley.”
