A woman has warned about the dangers of unlicensed minicabs after her "abhorrent" Deptford rapist was jailed for 11 years today.

Paul Causer, of Barfleur Lane, picked up his 31-year-old victim from Shoreditch in the early hours of August 3 using a car he had borrowed from a friend. He then drove her to a dead end road in Godstone, Surrey, and forced himself on her.

After raping his victim, Causer, 39, dumped her at the roadside and sped off with her bank card. He later attempting to withdraw hundreds of pounds from her account.

But police were able to track Causer ndown to Swanscombe using the "Where's my iPhone" app on the victim's missing phone.

Today (July 10) , the victim, who cannot be named, warned in a statement: "The past year has been a nightmare and I am now grateful it is all over but the message I would like to remind people is not to get into an unlicensed taxi.

"Despite being aware of the warnings, this was never something that I thought would happen to me. The horror of that night will affect me for the rest of my life."

Last month, Causer was convicted at the Old Bailey of rape and, today, was handed an 11-year sentence.

He was given a concurrent sentence of eight months for three counts of attempted theft which he admitted.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Adele Robertson of Surrey Police's Sexual Offences Investigation Team said: "Paul Causer targeted and abused a vulnerable woman and will rightly face time in prison for this abhorrent crime.

"I hope today’s sentence will go some way to giving the victim closure and allow her to move on with her life.

"Offences of this nature are not always reported to us, which is why we are keen to hear from anyone who has been attacked in similar circumstances to come forward."
