Chislehurst has unveiled a new £6,000 village sign after nearly 18 months of local development.

The centrepiece comes after the town was given a ‘parade grant’ of £50,000 to spruce up the high street, with new lamp posts, banners, and bins installed.

It was made by Kent-based Black Forge Art, and funded by local groups and business partners.

Town Team chair Alison Stammers said: "We are thrilled that Chislehurst is thriving and becoming ever more a destination and a centre of our community."

Work began in January 2013, with a new website made along with a town logo, designed by local resident Della Lawrence.

Clare Herriot, of the Chislehurst Business Group, hopes the changes bring more visitors in and added: "This last year has been a clear example of local groups, individuals and the council working together to improve Chislehurst."

Councillor Ian Payne commented: "I am delighted at the new Chislehurst sign and want to thank all those involved – it adds to the success of everything else that is being achieved in the Village."
