A man was kicked, punched and robbed in a communal stairwell in a Thamesmead tower block yesterday.

The 41-year-old was walking down to the second floor of Dexter House in Kale Road around 4pm when the incident occured.

As the man was walking down the stairs he encountered another man who demanded his money.

A struggle ensued with both the victim and the man falling down the stairs.

A second man then joined the suspect in assaulting the victim, kicking and punching him.

The victim later realised that his mobile phone and a small quantity of cash that he had on him was missing.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the assault.

It is thought one of the suspects may have had a claw hammer, although it is not believed that this was used in the assault.

The victim was treated by the London Ambulance Service at the scene but was not taken to hospital.The first man is believed to be a black male, aged 18-25, who spoke with a Caribbean accent.

A spokesman for LAS confirmed they were called. 

He was wearing a grey hockey mask, grey hoodie with the hood up and jogging bottoms and believed to be wearing gloves.

There is no description for the second man and officer from Bexley CID are investigating.

Enquiries continue. There have been no arrests.
