News Shopper: More than half of London workers in a survey have fallen asleep at work More than half of London workers in a survey have fallen asleep at work

Workers in London are among the most prone to falling asleep on the job, a study has found.

Nearly half of the people surveyed have fallen asleep in the workplace, with almost three quarters getting less than the recommended seven hours of sleep a night.

People in Birmingham are most likely to doze off at work, closely followed by Londoners – with 54 per cent of people in the capital who took part in the research saying they have done it.

The napping has not gone undetected, with 10 per cent caught snoozing by their bosses. Another seven per cent have been shaken awake by a client, which must have been awkward!

Nearly a third of people said they sometimes get some shut-eye on the bus, train or Tube to catch up on their sleep.

Participants were also asked where they tend to do their sleeping at work – the most common answer was at their desk, although a considerable number of people have managed to drop off while on the toilet!

Additionally, 29 per cent of people would like to see sleeping facilities in their workplace where employees can catch up on some much-needed rest.

The survey of 1,000 people was carried out on behalf of Memory Foam Warehouse.
