There were more than 3,700 Greenwich customers without electricity this afternoon (July 7) during a power cut which affected shops, homes and traffic lights.
UK Power Networks has apologised to the 3,722 customers affected after a fault on the electricity network occurred at 2.12pm.
Power was switched back on at 3.35pm after engineers had to isolate power supplies to tackle the problem.
People took to Twitter to complain of the “blackout” with @LucieGraceFace posting: “Power cut in Greenwich. The Whole of Greenwich. This is not a drill.”
Meanwhile Twitter user Rσll τнε Dιсε… @TDoesDis commented: “Deptford & Greenwich got some next kinda blackout boy ! Mad power cut no traffic lights nuttin”
A UK Power Networks spokeswoman said: “UK Power Networks engineers worked as quickly as possible to restore electricity supplies to customers in Greenwich.
“A fault on the electricity distribution network initially interrupted power supplies to 3,722 customers at 2.12pm.
"At 2.47pm we had to isolate power supplies to a further group of customers in the surrounding area for half an hour to reroute power supplies. Engineers reconnected all power supplies in stages by 3.35pm.
“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused.”
