A £500 reward has been offered by Bromley Council for information about a pile of abandoned waste.

Bromley Council has responded to a complaint from Anna Webb, from Penge, who says the rubbish has been sat in Cottingham Road for “weeks” and is “increasing in size every day”.

The resident says she moved to the area 18 months ago and claims litter is regularly dumped and left for too long, adding it may even be attracting vermin after a dead rat turned up in her front garden.

Executive councillor for environment Colin Smith is encouraging anyone with evidence on the fly tipping to come forward.

He said a £500 reward would be given if the council is able to successfully prosecute the guilty party as a result.

Cllr Smith added: "The council will be serving notice on those responsible for the fly-tipped materials to require the removal of this eyesore.

“The council will then arrange clearance if it is not cleared within the statutory period (14 days will be given) and recover the costs for this from those considered to be responsible.

“We are legally required to give a reasonable time period in the notice as this is predominantly inert material and is not a threat to health.”
