A family festival drew more than 30,000 people to Woolwich on Saturday as part of annual Armed Forces Day celebrations.

There were military vehicles and guns on display, as well as falconry, fairground rides and a performance by Former X Factor finalists Loveable Rogues at the Great Get Together at the Royal Artillery Barracks.

The event, which highlights Woolwich’s links with the military dating back almost three centuries, saw ceremonial displays by the barracks’ parachute display team from the 2nd Battalion Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment and members of the King’s Troop.

Greenwich Council leader Councillor Denise Hyland said: “The Great Get Together is always a great day out for all the family and brings people together from every part of our community.

“We have a long and proud military heritage in this borough, and we are delighted to be working alongside our colleagues in the army.”
