Swanley man detained over cock-fighting ring will not face charges

A man from Swanley arrested in connection with the discovery of a suspected cock-fighting ring has been told he will not face charges.

The 21-year-old was one of four men arrested after up to 170 birds were found in a converted barn in Raspberry Hill Lane, Iwade, near Sittingbourne on January 12.

Some dead birds were found and a ring made of straw bails where cock-fighting may have taken place.

A number of live dogs were rescued and drugs and cash were also seized.

The group were detained on suspicion of animal cruelty, money laundering, possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply and a series of theft offences.

But after a six month investigation they have been told they will not appear in court.

Investigating officer DC Steve Day said: “During the warrant we seized large quantities of drugs and cash.

“We also shut down a suspected cock-fighting ring, rescuing birds and dogs.

“This action goes a long way toward disrupting and deterring people who carry out this sort of criminal activity.

“The investigation is not closed and we will follow up further lines of enquiry should any new information come to light.”
