A Dartford amateur boxing club are in need of an affordable, permanent home.

The Tree Estate Community Amateur Boxing Club has been meeting at the Tree Estate Community Centre since December 2010 but now, coach Mark Daley, aged 50, of Mills Road, Northfleet says that the club needs a permanent home to house their equipment and host more classes.

Mr Daley said: "The community centre is not permanent, we have to put the rings up and take them down again afterwards.

"Nine times out of 10 I have always got help at the end of the night cause I have some good volunteers but it is so so hard."

Mr Daley, who runs MI Fibreglass in Dover Road, Northfleet hails the club his "passion" but has priced up industrial units which would cost £30,000 - an impossible sum for a club which charged £2 a week for classes for 20 youngsters.

Mr Daley added: "I could charge more but I want to keep it inclusive - a lot of the kid's families aren't well off."

The club have approached Dartford Council in a bid to help fund the running cost of a new venue.

Mayor of Dartford, Cllr Avtar Sandhu also picked the club as of one 31 charities he chose to support during his year as mayor.

A spokesman for Dartford Council said: "This club is doing great things for its local community and the Council has been working closely with the owners to try to find them an alternative venue, keep their running costs down and provide funding advice.

"The Club currently benefits from discounted hire rates at Tree Estate Community Centre and has received a grant from Dartford Locality Board for £2000 to enable it to run a 4-5 week tournament for more than 30 local young people."
