An Abbey Wood teenager who went on a joyride through south east Bexley and Dartford in a stolen £50,000 motor home has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Conna Herbert, 19, was at the wheel of the Ford Transit Hobby A65 when police officers spotted it travelling at speed in Hurstwood Avenue, Bexley, at around 4.10pm on March 24.

Travelling via Barnehurst Herbert ended up in Dartford where he was pulled over in Hawley Road before trying to flee police on foot.

The £51,985 motor home had been stolen from a garage forecourt in Canterbury overnight between March 21 and 22.

On June 4 at Bexley Magistrates’ Court Herbert, of Boxgrove Road, Abbey Wood, pleaded guilty to taking a motor vehicle without the owner's consent and using a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance.

On June 12 he was sentenced for the first charge to a three month prison sentence suspended for a year and ordered to do 100 hours of community service.

Herbert was also disqualified from driving for six months but there was no separate penalty for the second charge.
