Fifteen thousand people turned up for Biggin Hill Airport's Festival of Flight on Saturday (June 14), an event which culminated in a spectacular show from the Red Arrows.

In May 1965 Biggin Hill played host to the first ever public appearance by the Red Arrows and, now in their 50th display season, they returned to thrill spectators.
A team of nine BAE Hawk jets was led by squadron leader Jim Turner.

Before their evening performance, the Arrows greeted members of the public by driving around in eight MGB sports cars.
Supporting displays included the daring crews of the Breitling wingwalkers with their Stearman biplanes and the Blades aerobatic team directed by former Red Arrows pilot Andy Offer - flying four Extra EA-300 aircraft.

A Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress also made an appearance while a Spitfire staged a dogfight with a Messerschmitt Bf 109 - the wartime Luftwaffe.
This Douglas Dakota, used extensively by the allies in the Second World War, also made an appearance
West End Kids, the UK's highest profile musical theatre song and dance troupe, also performed, presenting a specially commissioned 'Wartime Theatrical Spectacular'.
