Falls Awareness Week has launched today (June 16) to promote specialist services available for Dartford residents and help keep older people on their feet for longer.

The campaign aims to reduce risk of a fall and promote services which improve stability.

The Keeping Strong, Staying Steady programme is available for older residents living in Dartford.

The 12-week postural stability exercise programme aims to prevent falls and associated problems and is suitable for people who have a fear of falling or anyone with poor posture and balance.

The classes are also ideal for individuals who have already had a fall, as trained exercise professionals at the classes can give excellent practical advice and support to prevent further falls.

Lead member Councillor Ann Allen, who has responsibility for health in Dartford, said: "Falling can have a devastating effect on an individual and severely dent their confidence.

“Individuals attending the course, will be taking part in a programme that is proven to help avoid a serious injury and they can learn to decrease their chances of falling in the future.

“It is also a great opportunity to meet new people, make friends and reduce social isolation."

Transport to the 12 week programme may be available if required for people living in the borough.
