Every time future queen Kate Middleton makes a public appearance, the checkouts go into overdrive.

Following her recent tour of Australia, sales of yellow dresses nearly doubled on eBay after the princess was photographed in one.

This week, the Duchess of Cambridge caused commotion again when she launched the Americas Cup bid in Greenwich dressed in a white dress from Jaeger.

Vibe asked Bluewater’s personal stylist, Clare Watson, of Miss Dress, for her take on Kate’s style and how you can look like the princess on a budget.

Clare (above, left) said: “Kate is every inch the modern Royal with her savvy style approach to mixing and matching the high street with designer and her thrill of a good bargain.

“Always opting for timeless styles, Kate has taught many a women how to make the purse strings stretch further during these harder times with her thrifty purchases and her care-free attitude of wearing much of her wardrobe more than once.”

There is more good news for women everywhere, too, as Clare said Kate’s simple style is great for all shapes.

She said: “Whilst her tall, willowy figure lends itself perfectly to clean lines and simple tailoring, but actually her style taste is universally flattering for curvy women, petite women as well.”

Where to shop

Clare said: “Whilst Kate’s chosen dress was already theoretically a sale steal at £99 (reduced from £150 at House of Fraser), there are a couple of cheaper high street options out there as well.”

Planet at John Lewis have this, also on sale, for £79.
