The UK’s most successful local Amnesty International book sale is returning to Blackheath for its 40th event.
Literary locals can attend the annual fundraising event for the leading human rights charity at the Church of the Ascension, in Dartmouth Row, on Midsummer’s day.
Vice Chair of Amnesty UK Hannah Perry will open this year’s event in recognition of its success over the past decades.
The popular book sale has raised more than £270,000 in its 40 year history, making it Amnesty’s most successful local fundraising event in the UK.
Blackheath and Greenwich Group of Amnesty International member Simon Ware said: “The quality of books – many of which are brand new – is exceptionally high, and there will be plenty of bargains to be found, from second-hand paperbacks to review copies of recently-published novels.”
Reading material can be picked up at the venue from 9am on June 21.
This year’s event will include the opportunity for members of the public to sign postcards for Amnesty International’s new global campaign to Stop Torture.
