Vintage planes, classic cars, and a milestone performance from the famous Red Arrows are set to adorn Biggin Hill Airport on Saturday June 14.

The Festival of Flight will pay special tribute to World War One’s 100th anniversary, as well as World War Two’s D-Day landings of June 6 1944.

After being home to service men and women who played a crucial role in the country's defence during WW2, several decades on it will host some of Britain’s most iconic aircraft.

The likes of Spitfires, Hurricanes, and an infamous Douglas C-47 bomber are set to soar over Bromley skies, while two former foes – the RAF Spitfire and the German Messerschmitt Bf 109 – are to stage a dramatic re-enactment from the historic Battle of Britain.

Spokesman at Biggin Hill Simon Ames said: "I’m really looking forward to it, I’m tremendously excited.

"Hopefully it’s going to be a great day. There’s so much going on."

In a true "celebration of the country’s aviation heritage", the festival’s flagship event sees the RAF’s aerobatic team, the Red Arrows, put on a half-century display.

The squadron first performed in 1965 and since then have gone onto stage over 4,000 demonstrations in over 50 countries.

Back in the mid-1960s its members were given a red MGB by the British Motor Corporation, so classic cars have also been invited along for the occasion.

Event Organiser Colin Hitchins said: "One part of our celebration for the Red Arrows 50th display season is to link the high-profile motor cars and motorcycles of the early to mid-1960s".

On safer ground, the West End Kids will be down in the borough to perform a specially-commissioned piece.

One of the UK’s highest profile music, theatre and dance troupes, its youngsters are set to present a ‘Wartime Theatrical Spectacular’.
