A man wearing washing up gloves held up a Penge bookmaker’s this week.

Police are appealing for information after the suspect went into the high street’s Ladbrokes and threatened a female member of staff with what is believed to be a gun wrapped in a plastic bag.

He made off with a quantity of cash in a Nike rucksack and is described as black, in his early to mid-twenties, and around 6ft.

Police have also reported the man was dressed all in black, in a jacket, hoody, and trousers, and was wearing a scarf over his face and yellow washing up gloves.

Officers from the MET’S ‘Flying Squad’ are currently investigating the raid, which took place on Sunday June 1 at around 10pm.

Detective Constable Chris Goddard said: "I would appeal to anyone with knowledge that would assist police in identifying the robbers to come forward and speak with us."

Yesterday (June 2) a Ladbrokes spokesman confirmed the incident but would not give details on how much was taken.

He said: "We can confirm that a robbery took place in our shop on Penge High Street on the evening of June 1.

“We are assisting police with their enquiries."

He added security procedures limit the information he is able to give to make sure criminals do not find out about security arrangements.
