A 52-year-old man was taken to hospital with a head injury yesterday (June 3) after being hit by a bus in Woolwich.

London Ambulance Service (LAS) was called to Woolwich New Road at around 4pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a bus.

Staff treated a man in his 50s for head and pelvic injuries and he was taken as a priority to the major trauma centre at Kings College Hospital.

LAS sent a single responder in a car, one ambulance crew and a duty officer to the scene.

An LAS spokeswoman said: "We were called just before 4pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a bus. We treated a man, reported to be in his 50s, for a head and pelvic injury.

"He was taken as a priority to the major trauma centre at Kings College Hospital."

Woolwich New Road was closed in both directions yesterday with slow traffic due to the accident at A206 Beresford Street at the junction with A206 Plumstead Road.

Greenwich Police also attended after an officer on patrol in Plumstead came across the scene.

A Met spokesman said: "We were called at 3.52pm. An officer on patrol in Plusmtead Road came across it.

"A 52-year-old male was taken to King's College Hospital with a head injury."

Police are investigating.
