There are far worse places to find yourself with an hour or so to spare than pretty Chislehurst, but where should you go and what should you see?

News Shopper lifts the lid on five intriguing things to keep you occupied. Clearly, this list is far from comprehensive – tell us what should be on it by tweeting @JimNewsShopper or leaving a comment below.

Get Down

News Shopper: Lunchtime Drink & Chislehurst Caves Tour

You can’t write about Chislehurst’s attractions without starting with the caves. The 22 miles of man-made tunnels have a long history, dating back to at least 1250, probably earlier. They have been munitions storage, an air raid shelter, gig venues and a whole lot more. Today they’re a haunted tourist attraction. Go to Chislehurst-caves.co.uk

If you go down to the woods today...

News Shopper: CHISLEHURST: Scadbury Park dig welcomes moated manor enthusiasts

A favourite of runners and walkers, there are plenty of pleasant woodland routes to explore within the 300 acres of Scadbury Park and Nature Reserve. Access via Old Perry Street.

Have a Rest

News Shopper: The Rambler's Rest, Mill Place, Chislehurst

Chislehurst has a few good pubs where you can put your feet up or get a bite to eat. One of the prettiest is The Rambler’s Rest, tucked away in Mill Place.

This wine’s champion

News Shopper:

Each of the 450 wines at the independent Champion Wines in the High Street is tasted by the staff, so you know it’ll be good. The selection is massive and they also sell cheeses, beers, spirits and champagne. The casual wine bar is a good place to unwind. Go to championwines.co.uk

Life is sweet

News Shopper:

Be taken back to more innocent times as you browse the old-school collections of sweeties in jars at Sweet Sundae on the High Street. They also sell ice creams, milkshakes and smoothies to enjoy in the parlour upstairs.
