Two friends who set up a pet foodbank in Thamesmead have inspired a similar organisation in Bromley.

Barbara Homewood, 46, who is disabled and her carer Sam Taylor, 23, are both keen animal lovers and decided to help people who are struggling to feed their creatures.

After appearing in the News Shopper last month, their initiative, Mario’s Mission, has encouraged another similar scheme to help pets in a neighbouring borough who might be feeling the pinch.

However Ms Homewood is desperate for more people to get in touch so she can help ease the financial burden.

She told the News Shopper: "The good news is from the article, a lady called me and has set up a pet food bank in Bromley - so we are spreading.

"Despite the article and advertising as much as we can, we would still love more clients to get in touch."

Mario’s Mission has also won the backing of superstore Jollyes, in Princes Road, Dartford, where shoppers can drop off purchases.

The food is then distributed from Ms Homewood's home in Mangold Way, Thamesmead, after clients have demonstrated evidence of need.
