Blackheath primary pupils are celebrating after bagging three major awards in just one month.

John Ball Primary in Southvale Road has become the first Lewisham school to be given a Science Mark Gold award, recognising excellence in teaching of the subject.

Alongside this, John Ball has been invited to join the Mayor of London's 'Gold Club' of high-achieving schools which have large numbers of disadvantaged pupils.

And it has also bagged a Schools Network award for results which place it in the top 20 per cent of schools nationally.

Executive head teacher Michael Roach said: "These awards are all testament to the excellent work done at John Ball to ensure all of our pupils achieve the best they can in a caring, stimulating and exciting environment.

"We are thrilled that the outstanding work of the school has been recognised again after our outstanding Ofsted inspection last year. We are also delighted to now be working in partnership with Torridon Junior School and aim for the two schools to continue to thrive together."
