A group of “anti-social morons” have been riding jet skis around a Thamesmead lake in the hot weather.

The “potentially dangerous” behaviour has been slammed by a housing association and residents and there are fears for the wildlife on Southmere Lake.

Residents have reported the group ‘screaming like kids’ as they ride three jet skis up to 40mph and frighten the ducks and geese which swim on the water.

Dave Morris, who lives near the artificially-created lake, which was famously used for scenes in movie Clockwork Orange, said: “There's lots of ducks and baby ducklings on this lake and they are being endangered and stressed out by these morons.

"They also ride close to them and scare them.

“They are going very very fast. They are screaming like kids.

“It is ridiculous – they are all quite old and they are acting like 14 to 15 year olds – they should know better really.”

The 32-year-old says he reported it to Gallions Housing Association, which is responsible for the lake, but felt nothing was being done.

Gallions says it takes the matter seriously and can seek an injunction to prevent trespassers on the lake in future.

Gallions’ Head of Neighbourhoods Andrew Green, said: “The use of jet skis on Southmere lake is anti-social and potentially extremely dangerous, particularly for the wildlife that live in and around the lake.

“It is also a nuisance for residents who live nearby.

“We would advise members of the public who see people using machines on the lake to report the matter to our Customer Contact Team or the Police immediately.”

He went on to say the housing association was reviewing actions to improve the situation including better signage, newsletters and residents’ events.
