A man has made an official complaint against the police after his Belvedere flat was searched for cannabis.

Sam Missons, of Lower Park Road, claims he was handcuffed after at least ten officers entered his property while he suffered an epileptic fit.

The 32-year-old, who admits smoking four spliffs a day and spending £30 a week on the drug, says he feels like he is being "targeted" by the police after being searched three times.

Mr Missons told News Shopper: "There were about ten policemen who used a battering ram to get into the flat.

"I was behind the door telling them to stop. When they came in they told me to tie up my dog Jess because they didn't know if she was dangerous.

"They came to the flat because they thought I was a dealer.

"They only found a little bud, I just keep enough for myself.

"I feel like I am being targeted because this is now the third time it has happened to me. I have been trying to cut down how much I smoke but I do it to calm me down.

"My doctor has said not to come completely off it because it would do me more damage."

Mr Missons claims while he was handcuffed and the officers were searching the flat he said he felt like he was going to have an epileptic fit and for the handcuffs to be removed during the incident on Thursday at 8.50am.

He added: "I told them that I could feel my face and arms twinging and that I was going to have a fit.

"They called me a liar, I was in the cuffs for about eight minutes.

"I feel like I am being constantly targeted. I feel like I just need to be able to do the weed to help my health.

"People can get it in America, I do it inside and don't do it outside, I just want to be left alone."

Mr Missons says he suffers from epilepsy, cerebral palsy, brittle bones, asthma, diabetes and eczema.

A spokesman for Bexley Police said: "Officers from Bexley Police executed a search warrant at an address in Lower Park Road, Belvedere at 8:50am on Thursday, May 15 under Section 23 of the Misuse of drugs Act 1971.

"When officers entered the address the occupier was asked to secure his dog and was then handcuffed as the premises was searched to ensure that there was no-one else present. "The handcuffs were subsequently removed when he was found to be the sole occupier.

"As the property was being searched for drugs the man stated that he had a number of ailments and was offered medical attention, which he declined. "The man was offered further medical attention after becoming agitated and punching a table, but again declined.

"A small quantity of cannabis was found hidden in a safe at the address and was seized by officers for destruction.

"A 32-year-old man was subsequently issued with a cannabis warning after admitting possession of the drugs.

"Any complaints received by the police will be fully investigated."

Nothing to be investigated in my opinion. This guy is smoking an illegal drug and has already received a warning from the Police. How do we know this guy doesn’t have people in and out of his house all day smoking cannabis or dealing the drug???

It really annoys me that you hear of hard working people who can’t afford to have a few drinks in their local with some friends and family because of the price of socialising and yet this idiot obviously doesn’t work with all the health problems that he has and yet he's spending £120 plus a month of tax payers money on his drug habit!!!!! MAYBE IF THE GOVERNMENT SLASH HIS BENEFITS HE MIGHT STOP SMOKING THE STUFF!!!!!

How can local authorities half the care hours ‘Iris Ellis’ from Greenwich (todays article) receives when this is clearly something this old lady requires and yet we pay scum bags like this idiot hundreds in benefits a month to spend on drugs????? Massive government changes need to be made to stop people taking the **** out of the system.

Od course you are right Cookster but how many people die of alcohol related health problems and how many die because of smoking weed ? I don't smoke and never have but I have lots of friends who do and to be honest they all function a lot better than the few other friends I have who are really just functioning alcoholics.
Personally I'd rather be around stoners than drunks who if they aren't aggressive are just a pain in the arse.

Your rating by other readers answers my reply but, I will answer any way because you are obviously in the same league as 'Sam Missions'.

Firstly you are forgetting the point that Cannabis is an illegal drug whether it helps prevent pain or not! I don’t disagree it can help thousands if legal however, it is currently illegal by law.

If I was unfortunate to be out of work due to illness I would be happy just to have help with a roof over my head and priority would be food and heating. Sam Missions has admitted he spends around £120 a month on his habit which in my opinion is disgraceful when there are elderly people out there who can’t afford heating in the winter and families who can’t afford to feed their kids (doesn’t matter about the circumstances) so who is a priority in your eyes a man who smokes cannabis not just because of his illness but for the pleasure of it or money towards those who need it just to survive???

Think of it this way if there are just 250k people within the UK who are on benefits like Sam and smoke the same amount of cannabis as him that works out to £360,000,000 a year!!! I think you will agree this is a shocking sum of money that can be spent on better NHS services, improvements to education, care for the elderly etc... etc.....

Sorry mate, but as you have mentioned it is fine ''to have a few drinks in your local'' but it is not okay to smoke a bit of weed to make himself feel better while he suffers from all his conditions? You do realise that alcohol is a drug, don't you? But wait a minute, it is okay to drink alcohol because the government allows you to do it. No doubt you are one of the morons that is spoon fed propaganda from the government and papers.
You get F all when you are on benefits. I had 2 months between jobs a few months ago and I smoked weed every single day. You know why, because it got so depressing getting knocked back on every job application that i started to get depressed.
The massive changes that need to be made are not to cut peoples benefits but create new jobs. Half the country can barely afford to live so how the hell can cutting benefits solve this. But I suppose that is not your problem. What do you want this person to spend his dole money on? He can spend it on whatever the **** he wants because it is his, not yours. It stops becoming yours once it comes out of your wages. You think the government will do what people want because it is 'your' tax money. Haha

In regards to the cannabis; you would want to come to terms with people smoking it because in the next 5 years this country will be flooded with it beyond belief! Then it will become much cheaper to socialise because you will be able to buy a spliff at you local cafe for £5 and socialise all you want. Sick to the teeth of people like you who literally haven't got the fondest notion about anything.

Guess what I am just about to do? That's right, I am about to light a bis **** dooby and I am going to enjoy every last beautiful toke of it ;)

so lets just say its true he is very ill and cant work because of it!! are you saying people cant still enjoy doing what they want to do wether that be smoking a spliff, having a pint with freind's or whatever.Really?? who is to say this man has never worked hard before in his life, do you know him personally!!! ?? There are many people that smoke cannabis when they are ill to help them ,stop judgeing people!!

I think you will agree this is a shocking sum of money that can be spent on better NHS services, improvements to education, care for the elderly etc... etc.....
You Sir, are exactly what is wrong with this country. So because the government say something is wrong then they must be right, is that it?
The guy above yous rating is like that because you guys are all slaves to this government. Who are the government to tell anyone what they can and cannot consume. They give you orders and you accept them without question, just like the nazis did.

If tomorrow they banned chemo therapy, would you be okay with that?Sure, it has medicinal benefits but it also makes you extremely sick and causes you hair to fall out, so why is it not banned? Why are all the prescription tablets oxys, diazapam etc.. not banned. They are extremely addictive. The reason they are not illegal is because big pharma are in bed with the government and together they spoon feed all you morons propaganda and you eat it up and ask for more. I have no doubt in my mind that we have a cure for cancer but do you really think big parma is going to let the 100billion dollar market close, not in a million years.

I suggest all you ill informed people go and do some research because I am sure that at one time or another a family member or friend will become sick and need medicine, perhaps cannabis. It is time we moved in to the 21st century people. Look at bloody America, one of the worst police states about and even they have come to terms with cannabis. Times are changing folks, sooner or later you are going to have to accept it.

Incorrect I'm afraid.

Under the 1972 Misuse of Drugs Act, smoking cannabis is not illegal.

Possession, production and supply is, but not smoking it. So your statement is false.

Please do some proper research before you post and maybe your opinion will change based on this?

You seemed to have missed the wealth of research on cannabis' valid medicinal effects on disorders such as Sam Missons. If you really want to save tax money, then making this plant available from the NHS (as many countries currently do) would remove the need for many more expensive pharmaceutical drugs this man is given. He wouldn't be funding organised crime and that would in turn free up expensive police hours.

It's funny how a more compassionate approach to a problem can be the most fiscally beneficial, eh?

I think you're missing his point completely. Someone on benefits should not be smoking weed or drinking in the pub. Why should somebody getting handouts, have enough money to spend £120 a month on drugs? He's admitted that he spends that so should therefore have his benefits cut by that amount. It would be no different if he was spending his money on booze.

I hope this man can soon get the cannabis treatment for epilepsy and his other conditions on the NHS. Of course, it will cost thousands rather than the £30 he spends out of his benefits, he'll have more money in his pocket, the tax payer will be completely ripped off by a government-sponsored cannabis dealer, but at least the people moralising here will be happy.

So many pompous anti pot people here. My Dad smokes the stuff for PTSD and he'd have to take legal drugs with nasty side effects if it wasn't for weed. He was on benefits for a year after suffering a minor stroke, but now he works and absolutely breaks his back so we can have food.

How about you all don't be the worst kind of judgemental scum and stop exclaiming that you're better than people because you happen to not smoke this unfortunately illegal plant. It's time to bring medicinal pot to this country, if you disagree despite the facts, I hope you know what it feels like need illegal medicine.
Firstly, seen as so many of you on here have jumped down my throat, I completely support any and all research into cannabis as a pain killer, treatment for glaucoma and anti-sickness during chemotherapy and any other uses those clever boffins can find. But, and it’s a big but, it has dangerous psychological side effects like lots of other medications and it is addictive and it can ruin lives, like anything can, illegal drugs, prescription drugs and 'legal highs', or getting drunk and choking in your sleep or sticking your finger in a plug socket with wet hands covered in tin foil. Doctors have argued to the UK government for it to be a lower classification but that's politics and has nothing to do with ethics or what's 'fair'. You argue that it's not as dangerous as heroin? Very true but this article isn't even remotely comparing it to hardcore drugs or 'demonizing' it, it's just providing factual evidence about a man who has been raided a few times and been cautioned for being in possession of cannabis which makes me wonder, if your all so pro-cannabis, and you know better than doctors, police and politicians, why don’t you google cannabis and read what the side effects of smoking cannabis can cause on health and a person’s wellbeing?
I know a few people who are addicted and its destroyed their lives but they have tried numerous times to quit and failed. But then my friend is schizophrenic and uses regularly and heavily and wouldn't dream of giving up, he says it works better than his medication from the doctors however, he also admits when he can’t get his hands on a supply he gets angry. A lot of people keep saying its less harmful than smoking haha for those who haven’t got a clue cannabis is mixed with tobacco to make a ‘joint’ as they say.
The people I know who smoke it also say they get paranoid because of the smell it gives off not only when they are smoking it but, also the scent it leaves on their clothes and people look at them like a scum bag when they walk past them in public – mmmm why so paranoid? Ohh yeah maybe because that’s another side effect smoking cannabis can have on people.

And why everyone seems to be having a go at me for being against it I couldn’t really care less thank you because we all know most people smoke it for pleasure purposes, and to make money it causes crime and in some cases deaths due to rival gangs etc… it stinks and makes you brain dead FACT!

I have sacked people over the years from my building firm who smoked cannabis due to other colleagues complaining about their safety on the construction sites due to the lack of attention the guys operating machinery and basically just because they aren’t functional.

Couldn't have said it better- I hope none of these judgemental scum bags ever have the misfortune to develop an illness that the only effective treatment for is illegal! Yeah that's right scum bags- I said I hope you DONT have to suffer that, because I have at least an ounce (excuse the pun) of empathy for my fellow lifeforms unlike you complete lowlifes with no regard for someone elses suffering whatsoever! That meagre bit for a couple of joints a week is his MEDICINE, and that £30 a week bud would have cost him less than a tenner 5 years ago but because of the illegal black market have a monopoly on it they can charge whatever they want AND to whomever they want! Give this guy good quality cannabis oil on the NHS and chances are he WOULD be working again! And if you are too ignorant to even google "cannabis for epilepsy" do not waste your time replying with unfounded drivel!!
haha sounds to me like you are also smoking way too much of the stuff!!!

Call me a scum bag if it makes you feel better personally I couldn’t really give a s@#t!!!

You are right I don't know what it’s like to suffer from any of the symptoms people who have tried or still do smoke cannabis for however, don't judge me by saying I couldn’t care less for those who have these illnesses.
Not only have I contributed to many charities over the years my company re-built a care home for free in Chislehurst because it was due to close due to lack of funding for repairs. I also contribute to people with all disabilities for them to enjoy a few days out every year. I don’t want a pat on the back or a medal for what I do it’s just nice to be able to give something back to the community while I’m in a financial position to do so and the best part is seeing a smile on their faces.

That's right, I am about to light a bis **** dooby and I am going to enjoy every last beautiful toke of it ;)
If you got off your lazy arse and stopped smoking cannabis all day then maybe you would have got a job quicker!

No doubt the interviews didn’t go too well because you were unable to answer any questions that they asked you in the interview ohh and not forgetting the disgusting smell you brought into the room with you or is that just your permanent body odour?

So you still smoke cannabis even though you are in work? so you aren’t smoking it for any illness? didn’t think so haha you contradicted yourself there lol

You go and smoke your joint go on kill a few more brain cells if you have any left lol

so lets just say its true he is very ill and cant work because of it!! are you saying people cant still enjoy doing what they want to do wether that be smoking a spliff, having a pint with freind's or whatever.Really?? who is to say this man has never worked hard before in his life, do you know him personally!!! ?? There are many people that smoke cannabis when they are ill to help them ,stop judgeing people!!

I think you will agree this is a shocking sum of money that can be spent on better NHS services, improvements to education, care for the elderly etc... etc.....
Stop talking crap, who are you to slate me.In the same league, really? do you know me? ...No i didnt think so. No i dont smoke weed im jut not a judgemental idiot like you
