Gravesend people were reportedly sweltering in the highest temperature recorded this year so far this morning - however the Met Office has revealed the temperature of 24.8 degrees celsius was potentially recorded in Swanscombe.

The Met Office revealed "Gravesend" had reached almost 25 degrees celsius today at around 12pm but was later beaten by a temperature of 26.3 degrees in Heathrow.

However the Met Office later shared the map of the weather observation site with News Shopper and it appears to be based in the Swanscombe Peninsula, as many readers had suggested.

The Met Office tweeted from its @metoffice account at around 12pm: "It's the warmest day of the year so far with Gravesend in Kent recording 24.8 degrees, but this could be beaten again later today."

Many readers tweeted their confusion about where the weather observation site was.

Pete Stone tweeted in response to News Shopper's story: "I am sure it is swanscombe. The reading taken from proposed theme park area I think."

Dartford Councillor David James Mote tweeted: "It is my understanding the temp is recorded on the Swancombe Peninsula."
