A science teacher from Ebbsfleet Academy was invited to meet Prime Minister David Cameron for an excellence in education celebration.

Gemma Creed, who has been at the Southfleet Road school for three years, was chosen as an education ambassador by charity Teach First to represent her school and many others across Kent.

The 25-year-old also met Education minister Michael Gove at the event to celebrate state education which took place at 10 Downing Street on Monday (May 12).

Gemma was nominated for her passion for science and was made subject leader of Science in her third year of teaching.

She told News Shopper: "I was very proud to represent my fellow teachers at the event.

"I met the Prime Minister and shook his hand and then we listened to him give a speech. It was an interesting experience.

"Ebbsfleet Academy was my first placement after graduating from the Teach First programme three years ago.

"The Academy is going through such a positive change at the moment under a strong leadership team."

Teach First was founded in 2002 and is recruiting inspiring graduates of all ages, to teach in low income communities.

She added: "The Academy is going through such a positive change at the moment under a strong leadership team.

"There is a clear vision and it’s exciting to be part of this momentum that is making a real difference to the kids and the school.

I hope I can inspire others to work with Teach First and share its commitment to change lives.

"My pupils were very excited about me coming to Downing Street, but more nervous about their exams."
