Shocking photo of child left outside Lewisham betting shop

News Shopper: The photo (by @ashduncs) The photo (by @ashduncs)

A shocking photo has been taken appearing to show a child left in a buggy outside a Lewisham betting shop.

The snap, taken on Lee High Road and published on Twitter today shows the child on a wet pavement outside Jennings bookmakers.

A child's arm can clearly be seen protruding from the buggy - but there seems to be no parent nearby.

It was posted by Twitter user @ashduncs, who wrote: "Only in lewishan would you see this."

One user wrote: "Lmaooooooooooo left her baby outside like it was the family pet!"

Is this really news. Unfortunately I see this all the time. I often see blokes going in the local bookmakers and leaving small children standing outside.

We all like a gamble. Horses, dogs, football etc,but to gamble a childs safety in this way is totally irresponsible and stupid.Ok the chances of the child being abducted or ending up being run over are quite remote, but to gamble those circumstances against trying to win a few quid could lead to a lifetime of misery and regret. Most people have access to a computer these days, so whats wrong with setting up an online account?.

Wonder if this person stood beside the child until the parent came out of the shop? Walking away would be equally irresponsible in my opinion.

What sort of idiot leaves a child unattended? I would have gone into the shop to find out who had done it.
