Bexley Council accused of 'whitewash' on investigation into strippers at Crayford pub

News Shopper: Bexley Council accused of "whitewash" on investigation into strippers at Crayford pub Bexley Council accused of "whitewash" on investigation into strippers at Crayford pub

A councillor has accused Bexley Council of a "whitewash" after a request to review an alleged breach of a licence appears to have come to nothing.

The News Shopper revealed last month how The Charlotte pub in Crayford, owned by Bexley deputy mayor Geraldine Lucia-Hennis, was being investigated after the Adonis Caberet Show performed at the pub.

The licence bans the pub from having entertainment consisting of 'semi or full nudity'- the event was raising money for charities supported by Bexley mayor Councillor Sharon Massey.

Stefano Borella, Labour councillor for North End in Slade Green, who is also on Bexley's licencing committee, said: "I requested a review of the pub’s licence.

"This was a reasonable and rightful request that the licence be reviewed as the allegations seem such an obvious and deliberate breach.

"If any other licensed premise in the borough were to admit to a breech in the press they would brought before the committee.

"It is terrible. It’s a clear whitewash, is it one rule for Conservative councillors and one for the rest, who is stopping this review from happening?"

It has also come to light the pub was broken into overnight between April 27 and 28 and a quantity of cash was stolen from the safe.

A police spokesman said the owner's did not know how much had been taken and that enquiries are continuing.

Mrs Lucia-Hennis told News Shopper at the time: "I am sure the people who went to the event wouldn't agree it was a distasteful with the amount of money we raised."

A Bexley Council spokesman added: "The alleged breach of licence condition in respect of the Charlotte Public House is being dealt with in accordance with the procedure applied to all licensed premises.

"The licence holder has been asked to meet the police and council licencing officers.

"A decision will then be made as to what, if any, action to take."

Is it any surprise? One rule for one, one for another.

They dish the dirt on others, but don't take criticism. Thing is, as you know, the establishment will do nothing. The cover up I read on the Bonkers website is testimony to that

If it were a UKIP owned pub, a Labour owned pub, or for political equity, one run by the indepedents in Lamorbey, there would surely be a review.

I say get the Pub Spy in there sharpish !

Whatever his motives the Labour councillor has a very good point.
Why is their one rule for one and one for another.
The arrogance of the quote from GLH shows a complete disregard to breaking the law. I hope Stefano Borella & Newsshopper don't let this drop at a time the local Tories are canvassing for votes.

Eurovision 2014 loudly cheered a drag queen, and loudly booed two teenage girls.

That was not very nice either.

Surely Bexley council aren't deliberately dragging their feet until after the election when Lucia-Hennis might not have a seat any longer, so this wouldn't be such an issue for the council ?

It's been almost 2 months (since this happened), Lucia-Hennis & Massey both want re-election, behind all the bravado about freezing council tax this is the true face of the how the council is run.

Suspend the licence to show this is being taken seriously and Lucia-Hennis should cover the money raised from her own pub takings.
