Two teenage girls and two men were rushed to hospital after a police chase through Bexley.

The four people were travelling in a Hyundai I10, which was reported stolen on May 6, and the driver did not stop when approached by the police.

A chase ensued and just after turning into Penhill Road the driver hit a bollard and the car flipped onto its roof and ended up in the churchyard of St James the Great Church at the junction with Bladingdon Road at 5.30am on Saturday.

Emergency services were rushed to the scene and two fire engines from Sidcup arrived shortly after at 5.37am.

A spokesman for the London Fire Service said "We were called to reports of a car that had hit a tree.

"Two fire crews from Sidcup attended the scene and cut the roof off the car because two people were trapped.

"We left the scene at 7.24am, so we were there for nearly two hours."

Eyewitness Lewis Newman @LewNewYC tweeted: "Horrific accident outside Penhill Road."

A spokesperson from the London Ambulance Service said: "Four patients were taken as a priority to Kings College Hospital, escorted by the doctor from London's Air Ambulance."

The driver, a male in his twenties, was arrested on suspicion of theft of the Hyundai I10.

He also suffered a broken arm in the pursuit, but is in a stable condition in hospital.

The three other passengers, two girls aged 17 and 19, and a male of a similar age were also arrested on suspicion of driving in a stolen vehicle.

They all sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Crayman says...

I hope the driver ends up paying for all the services his stupidity caused to have to attend his accident. Make him and his passengers families repay the owner of the car they nicked, then lock them all up for a long time
