Truck suffers gearbox failure at rush hour in Bexley Village causing delays

A truck blocked a lane in Bexley Village leading to long delays this morning.

The vehicle suffered a gear box failure and was moved within 40 minutes of the incident.

Drivers wanting to access North Cray Road or Joyden's Wood from the village were forced to try and overtake the truck without knowing what was coming round the corner.

The delays went back up onto Gravel Hill in Bexleyheath and back to Parkhill Road.

Was he definitely parked and not broken down? Not many people would choose to park on double yellow lines... Presume the Police were called?

There is no reason to stop at that point, no cafés or shops so there must have been a valid reason.

So NS deputy editor got held up.

But as usual only half a story, was the driver in the truck?

She assumed it was parked, but it has been suggested it might have broken down

Accusing the driver of being selfish - on what is that based?

Call the police they will tell you to call Bexley Council. Then Bexley Council will tell you to call the police!. Is it a parking issue, or obstruction?. Well both, so confusion here we go!.

The truck appears to have stopped in the centre of the lane, suggesting he has broken down. If he had parked, I would hope he would park closer to the kerb. Still, I do not expect the NS journalist to use imagine and research stories before they go to print

So now we are told it had broken down, not a "selfish driver" just parking

If the NS editor had thought about it, no-one would simply park there

Hope she wasn't too late for work - maybe that was the reason for the article, to justify to her boss why she was late "I was covering a story"?
