Police are urging Greenwich dog walkers to help sniff out crime when walking their pets.

Officers are launching their Dog Watch Scheme to encourage dog walkers to report anything suspicious whilst walking their canine friends.

The launch will be in Oxleas Wood’s car park, Shooters Hill, on May 10 at 11am with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home staff on hand for free tag engraving and microchipping.

Greenwich PCSO Claire Hall, who helped set up the scheme, said: “Dog walkers are often out from early mornings through to late evenings; we believe that they are more likely to see or hear anything related to crime or anti-social behaviour.

“We’d like them to report anything suspicious immediately to their Safer Neighbourhoods’ team.

“Our aim is to build a community-based network which will rely on the eyes and ears of dog walkers to protect the neighbourhood”.

Local businesses will be at the event to provide expert advice on all dog-related matters.
