Greenwich Morris Men danced on Blackheath for May Day this morning - although a white witch failed to show this year.

The dancers were up at 4.30am for their annual dance, jumping into their outfits and heading to the heath to dance before the sun rose at 5.32am.

A small number of spectators gathered, while the drivers of Blackheath had a good view of the spectacle, held on the first day of May each year.

Squire Colin Endean explained: "What we like about it is we've been doing it for so many years. We know a lot of our friends and colleagues are doing exactly the same thing at exactly the same time.

"There were lots of drivers going by and we got lots of horns being hooted at us."

He added: "In past years we've had a white witch come out and give us mead but she didn't come this time. Maybe she saw what the weather was going to be like."
