More than eighty adventurous Brownies camped overnight in Lewisham’s Shopping Centre for an unusual sleepover to celebrate the group’s 100th birthday.

Sydenham and Forest Hill Brownies, aged between seven and 10 years old, sang around a 'campfire', held a secret disco and had the run of the shopping centre for their nighttime celebrations on April 26.

The girls also made crafts, had a birthday cake and picnic, with food donated from some of the stores, and retook their Brownie Promise before settling down in their sleeping bags.

9th Forest Hill Brownie leader Rachael Mills, who organised the event, said: "We wanted to create an event to remember for the Brownies in the area and do something different to mark the Big Brownie Birthday.

"The girls were really excited in the run up to the sleepover and were particularly looking forward to their own ‘night in the museum’ experience."

Lewisham Shopping Centre centre manager Paul Redden added: "It’s the first time we’ve been asked to host a sleepover in the shopping centre and we were delighted to hand over the keys to the local Brownies to help them celebrate their 100th birthday."
