A Swanley man in his 80s had more than £1,000 stolen while he went to the toilet.

Police were called to a house in Fens Way, on Friday (April 25) to reports that a man had approached a resident and offered to carry out some gardening work.

The caller asked for an initial payment of a nominal fee and while the suspect was in the victim’s home a large amount of money was believed to have been stolen.

Officers are now reminding residents to be on the lookout for bogus callers and rogue traders who seek to take advantage of innocent people.

Detective Sergeant Neil Kimber from Kent Police said: "We suggest residents take some time to research reputable companies, with the help of family or friends if needed, and get a quote in writing before any money changes hands.

"We would also recommend not dealing with doorstep callers who offer to carry out work on your home or garden and not let "We are making a number of enquiries in connection with this crime and would encourage anyone with any information or who saw anything suspicious to contact police."

The man police are looking for is about 6ft tall, in his early thirties, with short hair and is of a medium build.
