A Bromley man currently serving a life sentence has escaped from prison.

Kevin Brown, 54, formerly of Upper Park Road, disappeared from Ford Prison in West Sussex on April 10.

Following a high security trial at Woolwich Crown Court in 2007, he was found guilty of two counts of conspiracy to rob and two counts of possession of a number of firearms.

He is described as white, 6'1" and of muscular build, with short dark cropped hair.

When last seen he was wearing prison clothes, a green t-shirt with orange shoulder patches and light green trousers, but may well have discarded them since then.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Wardley-Wilkins of Sussex Police said: "We have been making widespread enquiries to establish the background to Brown's disappearance and to find him, especially across the south-east where he has family and associates.

"There is currently no evidence that Brown poses a direct physical threat to members of the public, but in view of the seriousness of his offences, including a history of violent offences, we advise anyone who knows where he is, or who has any other information, not to approach him but to contact the police right away.

"You can either dial 999 or call Sussex police on 101 quoting serial 732 of 10/4. You can also call the independent charity crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
