A woman is in hospital in a "serious condition" after being stabbed with a pair of scissors in a Sidcup home.

Police taped off the house in Cleve Road and a helicopter was heard circling round the area at 11.30pm on Thursday in what was believed to be a domestic incident.

They are still looking for the man and are keen to get information from the public if they saw anyone running away from the scene.

Cleve Road residents told the News Shopper that five police cars arrived on the scene shortly before midnight along with an air ambulance responder car and an ambulance.

A Met police spokesman said: "We were called at 11.30pm on Thursday to reports of a woman having been stabbed.

"London Ambulance Service were called and the victim was taken to hospital wher she remains with serious injuries.

"The victim had been at her home when the suspect entered the property and attacked the victim with a pair of scissors.

"The suspect has then run off.

"Police are urgently appealing for anyone who may have further information about this incident or who may have seen a male running from the Cleve Road area."

A police van and car are at the house and concerned parents from Royal Oak Primary School were seen stopping at the scene on Friday morning.

News Shopper:

Chelsea King, 26, who lives on the street, told News Shopper: "I heard the helicopter for about an hour last night circling the meadows which are just behind our houses.

"It is a really quiet street with lots of elderly people so it was quite shocking to see this kind of thing when I was taking my child to school.

"The house was taped off and I saw police men in blue forensics suits coming in and out of the house.

"We don't really know what is going on but I saw lots of parents stopping to have a look because it is right opposite the primary school."

News Shopper:

One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: "My daughter woke up with someone shouting 'help me, help me' at about 11.45pm.

"We got up and the helicopters were going mad. There were about five police cars, a car from the air ambulance and the paramedics.

"Someone was really badly hurt.

"It's shocking really, nothing like that ever happens around here."

Another neighbour added: "It's really awful what's happened there. It's not nice at all.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes, from Bexley Police, added: "This is an appauling crime but I would like to reassure the Bexley community that my team is actively hunting for the person responsible so that he be arrested at the earliest opportunity.

"Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are still on-going."

If you have information call Bexley CID on 0208 284 9257 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I hate it when people say things like "its really nice and quiet here, nothing like this had ever happened here before.". Seriously!? There is no area that is exempt from violence. Just areas where they are better at covering it up.

Hope the lady recovers, both mentally and physically.
