Dartford and Gravesend both celebrated St George’s Day in style with a pair of parades.

More than 1,000 young people from 21 schools in Gravesham took part in the celebrations on Wednesday (April 23).

Organisers Gravesham Council and the Kent Equality and Cohesion Council celebrated England’s patron saint and brought together the diverse communities of the borough.

The parade in Gravesend featured pupils from schools across Gravesham and there were performances from Premier Brass Band, West Hills Morris Dance Troupe and Four by Four Dhol Drummers.

In Dartford the council handed out free hog roast, flags and quizzes testing resident’s knowledge of England.

Stage performer Judy Blues, who lives in Princes Avenue, got right into the spirit with a St George’s cross cape and a dragon puppet. The 53-year-old said: "I didn’t do anything last year so I thought I’d catch up big time this year.

"It’s a tradition and people should celebrate it."
