Burglars posing as policemen have targeted three Bexley pensioners in the space of three days.

A 77-year-old woman had cash and jewellery stolen in the first incident at 12.30am on Friday in Main Road, Sidcup.

The second offence took place on the same day at 11pm in Hurst Road, Bexley, when cash and jewellery were taken from an 83-year-old female victim.

At 10pm on Monday another 83-year-old woman was approached in Blendon Road, Bexley, but this time nothing was taken.

In all three cases the suspect posed as a plain clothes policeman investigating a burglary at a neighbour’s property.

Residents unsure whether a caller is genuine are reminded that officers in uniform can provide a contact number for a police station or their home unit to verify their identity.

All officers, including those in plain clothes, will have a warrant card in a black leather wallet with a metal MPS crest, showing a photo ID card stating their name, rank and warrant number.

Members of the public can call the non-emergency number 101 to verify an officer's details.

Anyone with any information about the three distraction burglaries should contact Bexley Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

The burgaries happened just weeks after News Shopper covered the story of a 90-year-old woman who had £1,500 of jewellery and cash taken by two men who entered her home in Bexleyheath pretending to be police officers.
