A weekend of free activities is taking place next month celebrating the borough’s past and remembering resident steam pioneer Richard Trevithick.

The event has been organised by Datford Council, the Dartford Remembered Facebook Group and Trevithick’s Industrial Dartford, a group which commemorates the inventor’s life.

On May 10, Central Park will host a rally featuring steam engines of all shapes and sizes, stationary engines and vintage vehicles.

There will also be displays and activities for all the family, including talks, photographs and memorabilia from the 60s to the 90s, including the Liz Burville Dancers, Punch and Judy, giant retro games and the Borough of Dartford fire engine from the 30s.

On May 11, steam engines will gather in Overy Street at noon ready for the road run up East Hill, to lay a wreath on the memorial stone of Trevithick who is buried in the town.

There will also be vintage bus tours of the borough taking place on the Sunday.
