A blind Blackheath mum who is trapped in a damp, mouldy flat says she feels "broken" and like she is "living outside".

June Mclaren, who requires a carer after she went blind in 2009, is desperate for help with her home in Carnbrook Road where even her front door is "slimy" with the damp.

The 51-year-old claims she can hear water running down the walls in her home, which is run by L&Q London Housing Association (L&Q).

Ms Mclaren said: "I am broken, I am tired.

"I can hear water running down the walls.

"I think if I was living outside, I would feel better.

"I am at my wits end. I can’t do this anymore.

"I can’t even see. I should not be in here. I am sitting in this crap every day."

She says she is constantly having to throw her clothes and photographs away and has even found mildew on her teabags.

The mother-of-two said: "It is more than damp.

"It’s been going on for ages.

"The front door is so bad that the back of the front door is slimy.

"I have to throw everything in the bin."

She says she first reported the damp and leaks to L&Q more than a year ago but it has not been fixed.

An L&Q spokesman said: "Our residents’ welfare is L&Q’s top priority and we are very sorry that June Mclaren’s home has been affected by damp.

"Sadly, water has been leaking into June Mclaren’s flat from outside the property.

"Having located the source of two leaks, we have carried out a number of repairs, and are due to undertake further repairs and redecorations this week.

"We very much hope that these repairs will substantially alleviate the damp problem that has affected June Mclaren’s home."

In cases like this where the landlord takes too long to undertake repairs the tenant can make a 'disrepair claim' which ultimately can involve a Court hearing.

The tenant should contact Greenwich Housing Rights for assistance who I am sure will be more than happy to assist her. Email: general@grhr.co.u

Disgusting story - perhaps the head of L&Q could put up this poor lady in their own house until it's sorted.

Yeah, thought not.

i hope the housing association, place her somewhere else while they do these repairs !!! poor woman, but her carer should complain more and not leave it to the tenant.
