A New Cross flat fire in the early hours of the morning left one person injured.

Four fire engines were called to Besson Street at 1.46am to a blaze at a block of flats.

One man, aged in his 60s, was rescued by firefighters while 20 people were evacuated from the building.

A five-room flat on the ground floor suffered 50 per cent fire damage.

The rescued man was treated by London Ambulance Service staff for minor smoke inhalation.
